Love love love

I am having a tres stressful week trying to organise myself for Bestival in and around working and socialising and generally keeping my noggin above water. Unfortunately, now I've got myself the sniffles and some sort of 18th Century whooping cough, so I ain't being too successful. As a nerd a la literature, I happily confess to collecting quotations feverishly, and so to cheer myself up at this grand old hour of 1am I thought I'd post a few of my favourites about that smasher of a topic - LOVE!

Do you want to know what love is? I'll tell you what it is: you feel a strange pressure in the chest, your throat goes dry and your heart beats wildly; your gaze fixes on a point lost in space; you realise that a three-line poem contains your entire life; it dawns on you that you are alive but don't want to be alive; you feel a pain buried inside, so big you would never have thought it possible. Love is melancholy, sadness and laughter at the same time, and also passion, uncertainty, fever, lack and excess; a simultaneous feeling of being your purest self and yet completely alien to yourself. Love marked a before and an after in my life.

- Sisyphus in love (Sisifo maite minez) by Laura Mintegi

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”

"I love how your heart
is filled by so many but
still has room for me."

- Daily Haiku on Love by Tyler Knott Gregson

"Love is a temporary madness.  It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides.  And when it subsides you have to make a decision.  You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.  Because this is what love is.  Love is not breathlessness; it is not excitement; it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion.  That is just being "in love," which any of us can convince ourselves we are.  Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident."
- Captain Corelli's Mandolin - Louis de Bernieres

I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.
- John Keats

We don't love qualities; we love a person; sometimes by reason of their defects as well as their qualities.
- Jacques Maritan

We don't believe in rheumatism or true love until we have been attacked by them.
- Marie Ebner-Eschenbach

"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever."
-  Lord Alfred Tennyson

"To love, for us men, is to clasp one woman with our arms, feeling that she lives and breathes just as we do, suffers as we do, thinks with us, loves with us, and, above all, sins with us."
- Baroness Orczy

Am I the only one mad enough to do this?! I would love love love it if someone else shared theirs so that I could add to my collection.
